Arranging flowers in hammer-raised metal vessels
Tankin in Japanese is a metalworking technique in which a single sheet of metal is hand-battered and hammer-raised to create various forms. lo Koichi, a finalist for the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize 2019, pursues his own unique expression by adding his personal interpretation and value to this 4,000-year-old craft. The lemoto’s encounter with the young artist’s containers created a new landscape in the world of Tankin.
[Feature article]MASS
Mass is a technique that was introduced into ikebana by our first lemoto Sofu as a new type of expression. In a broad sense, it is one of the three essential elements of ikebana: Line, Color and Mass. However, every person seems to have a different interpretation of mass. In order to thoroughly enjoy the authentic mass of Sogetsu, let us give a second thought to its concept and the method of arranging a mass.
