Originally set up for British officers in 1884, MGC has evolved into an exclusive club, whose membership is highly sought-after, with a long waiting list and eligibility criteria.
The Gym Cultural Hub, is a sub committee, incharge of hosting regular events, including cultural programs, talk shows, and social gatherings.
Chennai Sogetsu chapter member Sensei Chitra Thiagarajan was invited to give a demonstration and conduct a workshop on Ikebana at the club on the 1st of March ’25.
She did three arrangements for the demo. First was a basic upright lessons and the other two were freestyle arrangements. She also had a presentation of her various arrangements done at exhibitions and workshops to explain the different kinds of flowers, foliage and containers and how they can be used in Ikebana
Next she conducted workshop for the 25 participants. They had been given a kit consisting of a bamboo basket, flowers and foliage. Chitra displayed one arrangement in the bamboo basket for the participants to observe and do. All participants were given a leaflet containing tips on Ikebana.
