Ken Katayama( Master Instructor of the Sogetsu Headquarters)
At the beginning of the year 2023, I chose to use pine, bamboo, and plum as they are materials appropriate for a new start, with an awareness that this will be a significant year in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
I arranged Iemoto Sofu's favorite red and white camellias in a large bowl that was made by Iemoto Hiroshi, together with madake or Japanese timber bamboo, creating a work that unravels the history of Sogetsu. Lastly, I drew a large circle with split bamboo, wishing for world peace.
