Special Video for Flower Thanks Day
As in 2019, we have to call off the Flower Thanks Day ceremony at Sogetsu Hall this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
We are sorry we have to cancel the day you have all been looking forward to , but hope you enjoy this special video of the Iemoto's flower offering and message.
*The Flower Thanks Day is the day for all the members of the Sogetsu School to express their gratitude for the plants they used to arrange ikebana during the year. In addition to the flower offering, we hold a ceremony for those who successfully passed the promotion examination and those who received prizes to mark their achievement.
*A specially edited DVD will be sent to all award winners and those who were promoted to Riji and Komon in the examination of 2019 and 2020.
Message from Iemoto Akane Teshigahara
Hello everyone.
This is Akane Teshigahara of Sogetsu.
Every March, we commemorate “Flower Thanks Day” in honor of the plants used for ikebana over the past year.
Unfortunately, we were again unable to hold the flower offering ceremony this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I strongly felt, however, that it is times like these that call for us to show our gratitude to the plants that give us strength and reassurance, and for me to share this with you all. That is why I decided to live stream the offering of flowers.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives significantly. The distance between people has forced us to become nervous even about small matters on a day-to-day basis.
Under such circumstances, it is my hope that this live stream gives us a chance to remind ourselves of the plants that bring peace and joy to our lives.
Believing in the power of a single flower, I sincerely hope it reaches all of you and that we may all continue to enjoy our life with flowers.
