[feature]How shall we play with ikebana?

[feature: How shall we play with ikebana?] Letʼs visit Maywa Denki and have some fun!

The latest Sogetsu Annual Exhibition was titled “Play More!”, and last December’s Teachers’ Workshop focused on the theme “Thrillingly Playing with Flowers.” The word “play” is now ubiquitous at Sogetsu. In this issue we focus on this theme of ‘Playing’. Iemoto visit-ed Mr. Tosa Nobumichi, a producer of ‘Maywa Denki’, an art group which invented entertaining electric products and instruments. What kind of ‘play’ do Mr. Tosa and Iemoto produce in his atelier full of ‘nonsensensical musical instruments’ invented by him?

[feature: How shall we play with ikebana?] Let's play with ikebana!

Let’s play with ikebana. Sogetsu ikebana can be created with any kind of material. This time 6 ikebanists have selected bright red high-heeled pumps, lovely fallen leaves, candy boxes, broken branches, beautifully colored water and shadows of ikebana as material and created works with playfulness.

‘Teachers’ Workshop’ is the highest class for Sogetsu Teacher’s Association members, where Iemoto instructs directly. In the workshop when the theme was ‘Exciting Play with flowers’ was held in December in 2024, a total of 233 members did their best under Iemoto’s suggestion, ‘Let’s play with flowers and arrange them with our sense of play.’ What did they create? You can enjoy the detailed report of the 2.5- hour workshop, the photos of 28 works selected by Iemoto and her comments on them.
